The waiting game

I'm on the hunt for a new teaching position. I've got my cover letter, resume and letters of reference out there. I'm making friends with folks in human resources in my local school district. I'm applying to every open position that I am qualified for and that I know that I'll enjoy teaching. I'm emailing all the principals I can. . . Now it's the waiting game.

I interviewed at one school that has both English only and Spanish Immersion classes. Unfortunately my Spanish is limited to ordering burritos (and yes, it's the next thing I have to learn) and the one English only teacher who was planning on leaving, decided to stay. Luckily the principal said she'd happily recommend me to any other principals.

I attended an open house at another school to meet the principal and put a face to my application. He said that he easily had 100 applicants to wade through and figured this was the best way to figure out who he wanted to call in for an interview. Well, it seemed to work out for me. . . I have an interview this coming Wednesday.

Last week I interviewed at another school. It felt like it went really well, just don't know how well it went for the competition. I guess my big bonus points come from the fact that I am volunteering for a summer reading program started by two teachers from that school. When the principal asked how I got involved with it, I gave her the whole story about reading one of the teacher's bios at an education event I went to, seeing the program written up in it, then searching all over the web till I found a way to reach the woman and tell her I wanted to volunteer. The principal seemed pretty impressed with my determination and passion.

Well, now I'm just waiting. Waiting to hear back from the interview, waiting for the next interview. Guess I'll just keep waiting, searching and keeping my fingers crossed.
